My sister had a party tonight, celebrating her high school graduation. It was a good time. I manned the BBQ, drank a lot of vodka and beer, and overheard a lot of conversations. One in particular caught my interest. The father of one of my sisters old friends is a Colonel in the Army. He has been in Iraq for almost a year. Apparently this is a well known fact in their high school. On the last day of this girls senior year, in the last five minutes, one of her classmates stands up and lets out a rant about the "evil" people who are participating in the war in Iraq. Honestly, it shocked me when I heard this. I am far from pro war, but I will certainly support friends and peers who are sent to fight. I might not agree with what they're fighing for, but a lot of these people are my age (most younger) and I definately want every single one of them to come home safe. Now I understand that this was just some ignorant 18 year old who made this comment, but I wonder... Do people think the solution to the Iraq problem so simple? That we can just drop everything and leave? My views of this war are very private to me, and only a few people know what I think. However, I will say this much.
When you make a mess, you clean it up. Or at least figure out a way to get it cleaned up. You can't just leave it.
Do I have a solution to the problem? Hell no! That is why I dont parade around and argue with people about the situation. I don't judge soldiers or protestors. I have my opinions and they are private. I am tired of people who know NOTHING about politics, or this WAR, standing up on pedestals and ranting about right and wrong, just because it's the hip thing to do.
If you don't know anyone who has been to Iraq and/or if you aren't up to date on your facts. Do the rest of us a favor and shut the fuck up. Save the talking for intelligent people.
(this has been a rare, somewhat political, rant from Dave. Thank You)
